Course description

The Digital Photography Diploma Level 3 will allow you to explore how better to understand the workings of your camera, how to control lighting, posing, and to find your direction as your own personal photographer. Each section is covered in easy to understand terms and requires you to put newly acquired knowledge into practice via formal assessments.

Written by an expert in the field of photography, this course gives you the skills, insight and knowledge to broaden your photography expertise either to take better family images or even start your business.

It consists of four Units split into twenty modules with assessments.

  • To develop these skills in practical sessions
  • Develop an understanding of your own equipment
  • To understand different photography specialisms
  • To develop an understanding of image editing
  • Develop and understand career options and progression routes forward
Typical units

Unit 1: An Introduction to Digital Photography

This unit covers the basics of camera controls and rules to start taking simple images. Students will understand the history of Digital Photography, and what equipment they will need to suit what level they would like to progress to in photography. Students will understand aperture, f/stop and depth of field to be able to use these in a single image.

Unit 2: Digital Photographic Composition

This unit looks at applying new techniques to broaden skills. Students will learn which file format is best for shooting with depending on the style of photography required. Students will understand exposure compensation, white balance and ISO to improve on their shots from unit 1. Lighting will be covered in natural and artificial light and how best to use it with the advantage of reflectors.

Unit 3: The Practicalities of Digital Photography

This unit covers the practicalities of photography and how to produce quality images for families, friend or clients. Three specialities are covered in family, portraits and weddings and a brief section on other specialities. This unit looks at giving a more professional critique of the students work and highlighting the professional practice.

Unit 4: Applying your Digital Photographic Skills

Previous knowledge

No prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course.

Assessment

Completing a series of tutor marked assignments and or activities marked by your assigned tutor.

You will receive the course manual, assignments, study guide or on-line password and access to learning resources depending on the type of course you start i.e paper based or on-line. Full  tutor support by mail, email and on-line via our partner organisation depending on your chosen study route. Their student support team are also available for any other queries that you may have whilst completing your course. You can be assured that 12 months unlimited support will be available during your studies. There will be no need to struggle or feel isolated during your studies.

Start times
