Course description

This QCF Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care course is designed to allow students to complete the required study as a stand alone qualiifcation or integrated within other programmes either externally set or as a inhouse requirement.

The first unit provides learners with an overview of the emotive issues surrounding death and dying. It also helps learners understand palliative care and its place within end of life care. In addition, the support services available to the individual and others during end of life .

The second unit aims to give learners an understanding of the importance of communication throughout end of life care.

The third unit aims to give the learner an understanding of the person centred approach to assessment and care planning within end of life care along with the legal implications of any advance care planning decisions.

Unit 4 informs learners of the person-centred approach to end of life care and how individual's physical, emotional, social and cultural needs can and should be met.

The final unit assists learners to understand a wide range of approaches to providing care during final hours of care. It also provides an understanding of the processes of loss and grief, how to support those who are bereaved and how to cope with own feelings during the process.
