Course description

Millions of people fall ill every year and many die as a result of eating unsafe food. Most of these illnesses are attributed to contaminated food or water. Proper food preparation can prevent most foodborne diseases.

This short, auto-marked programme will give you the knowledge you need to understand those health issues surrounding food safety and how to prevent unwanted illnesses.

A great addition to your CV to show your commitment to health and fitness, this is also beneficial for general knowledge.

Course content

These are some of the key topics you will cover within this programme:

Hygiene

This introduces the learner to the importance of personal hygiene, cleaning and contamination, and helps the learner identify the consequences of poor hygiene and the benefits of good hygiene.

Food Poisoning

Learners will be able to identify symptoms of food poisoning and how these symptoms may develop.

Food Safety Responsibilities

This introduces the legal and personal responsibilities towards food safety under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Reporting Illness

Learners will understand which symptoms should be reported and how long before the person can return after being identified with these symptoms.

Protective Clothing and Equipment

This will cover the importance of protective clothing and equipment when working with or near food.

Contamination

Learners will understand the precautions that must be taken to prevent the contamination of food and work surfaces.

Previous knowledge

No prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course.

Assessment

You can complete this course on our interactive online learning platform, EQUAL, where your knowledge will be assessed through a series of short answer questions with no examinations.

Support

You will receive an online password for the course and unlimited tutor support via email and telephone whilst you study this course.

Start times

Allow an average of 2-3 hours to complete the course however you can spread your study over 3 months. Work at your pace to suit your own circumstances. You can stop your course at any time and continue your studies when best for you.

Awarding organisation
