Course description

Depression or anxiety affects nearly one in five UK adults. This number could be higher as many are embarrassed to come forward due to not many understanding the seriousness of anxiety and depression.

This short, auto-marked programme will give you the knowledge you need to understand the impact and key issues surrounding depression.

A great addition to your CV to show your commitment to mental health, this is also beneficial for general knowledge.

Course content

This course is split into manageable sections. These are:

Section 1: The meaning of depression

Learners will understand the difference between feeling low and depression and the key facts about depression.

Section 2: The cause of depression

In this section, learners will cover the causes and symptoms of depression and will also look at individual experiences.

Section 3: The effects of psychotic depression

In this section, learners will understand what psychotic depression is, identify those that suffer from it and recognise the key factors associated with it.

Section 4: Effects on the individual, family and friends

Learners will understand how depression affects an individuals life and their family and friends.

Section 5: How the demands of daily life

This section covers the demands of daily life when faced with depression and also introduces how to manage these pressures and demands.

Section 6: Depression management and support

Learners will cover the possible treatments and local resources that can help with depression and psychotic depression.
 
Previous knowledge

No prior learning knowledge or experience is essential to take this course.

Assessment

You can complete this course on our interactive online learning platform, EQUAL, where your knowledge will be assessed through a series of short answer questions with no examinations.

Support

You will receive an online password for the course and unlimited tutor support via email and telephone whilst you study this course.

Start times

Allow an average of 2-3 hours to complete the course however you can spread your study over 3 months. Work at your pace to suit your own circumstances. You can stop your course at any time and continue your studies when best for you.
