Course description
This Understanding Substance Misuse Level 3 QCF qualification helps to develop increased understanding of those issues and outcomes witnessed and associated with substance misuse. The course aims to cover a wide range of substance misuse issues and the variety of responses and interventions often witnessed.
The course raises an opportunity for personal development and occupational competence in an area identified by government policy as one requiring special attention. The course is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the subject and is particularly aimed at those who work directly and regularly with people with alcohol or drugs misuse problems. This is also an ideal course for those who aspire to pursue a career in this important area.
This course is widely used to train drugs and alcohol workers, as well as generic professionals serving young and / or vulnerable people to support them in achieving their DANOS competences. Mapping to the DANOS competences has shown that this programme covers a broad range of relevant DANOS units. The course provides also comprehensive underpinning knowledge for the substance misuse modules of the NVQ and SVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care.
The qualification has been mapped to the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards (DANOS) and the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework. It helps people to develop their knowledge, skills and competence in the following DANOS units:
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate risk of danger to substance users
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
AF2 Carry out assessment to identify and prioritise needsTypical
